The Mosaic Initiative

A Turnkey Hotel for Single Mothers & Their Children

WHAT: WE ARE WORKING TOWARDS

We are actively working toward the purchase of a 100+ room turnkey hotel that can be transformed into a safe, healing-centered campus for over 400 women and children. This facility will be a sanctuary for mothers escaping homelessness, abuse, trafficking, addiction, or economic crisis, offering not just shelter—but a path to long-term restoration.

The hotel will include:

  • A designated emergency shelter floor for immediate, short-term crisis stabilization

  • An on-site interview and intake team to offer eligible residents an invitation into our long-term transformation program

  • Private living spaces for dignity and stability

  • Community spaces for meals, childcare, education, counseling, and discipleship

We are intentionally seeking a turnkey property—a fully operational facility that requires minimal renovation—so we can begin serving families immediately. The ideal location is secluded enough to provide privacy and safety, but still close to vital community services, schools, and healthcare access.

This approach allows us to accelerate impact, steward resources wisely, and offer families the safety, stability, and support they need to heal, grow, and thrive—together.

WHERE: A STRATEGIC AND SAFE LOCATION

Our vision is anchored in a specific, strategic property we are actively pursuing to launch our family restoration campus. For the safety of the women and children we serve—and because the building is not yet under our ownership—we’re keeping the exact address private at this stage.  We can say though, that the location is in Sarasota, FL.

If you’re a partner or supporter and would like to know more, we’re happy to share details privately once we’ve established proper security measures.

This site offers the perfect blend of privacy and proximity:

  • Safe and Secluded: Tucked away from heavy traffic and commercial noise, it provides the quiet and security essential for those recovering from trauma.

  • Close to Key Services: Within minutes of hospitals, schools, childcare, public transit, job opportunities, and recovery resources—making reintegration realistic and accessible.

  • Surrounded by Nature: The peaceful environment fosters dignity, healing, and long-term stability.

With more than 100 existing rooms, the property is already equipped to operate as a turnkey campus, minimizing construction delays and allowing us to focus on what matters most—rescuing and restoring families.

WHY: BREAKING CYCLES & INVESTING IN OUR FUTURE

Local Crisis: Housing & Economic Realities

  • Housing cost burden is rampant

    • In Manatee and Sarasota County, 54.5% of renter households pay over 30% of their income on housing—many exceeding 50%, leaving little for food, childcare, or savings.

  • Rent ballooning fast

    • Median rents rose nearly 50% in Manatee and Sarasota County year-over-year—making both areas among the fastest‑growing rent markets nationally.

  • Homeless family crisis escalating

    • Sarasota County: 1,055 homeless students in 2022–23 (up from 611 during pandemic)

    • Manatee County: 1,524 homeless students last school year, up from 1,203 pre‑pandemic.

    • Average homeless individuals: 2270 in both counties combined

  • Insufficient shelter capacity

    • Sarasota offers about 561 emergency beds, plus roughly 342 transitional and 414 permanent supportive beds—but still falls far short of demand. Manatee County similarly lacks permanent supportive housing units altogether, with providers citing a shortage of ~20,000 affordable units, let alone available beds.

  • Single‑mother poverty is stark

    • Over 57.9% of female‑headed families in Florida live below poverty, with Sarasota and Manatee counties well above state averages

Homeless Families & Single Mothers in Sarasota County

  • According to Schoolhouse Link / Project Heart, during the 2022–23 school year

  • The nonprofit Women’s Resource Center reported assisting 896 households headed by single mothers in that period, up from 562 the year before. In total, they supported 1,706 individuals—which includes both the mothers and their children cfsarasota.org.

  • Since most homeless families in Sarasota County are led by single mothers, these figures strongly indicate that approximately 896 single mother–headed households were homeless or receiving homelessness assistance during that 2022–23 time frame.

Data Context & Limitations

  • School records count families with K‑12 children experiencing homelessness; they may undercount those not connected to public schools or those doubling up temporarily.

  • The Women’s Resource Center figure reflects those who sought services—others facing homelessness may not have sought formal help.

  • The Florida Department of Children & Families reported 411 total homeless individuals statewide in Sarasota County in 2023—but that figure covers all individuals, not just families or single-parent households olympicbehavioralhealth.com.

  • 896 single mother–headed households, representing 1,706 individuals, received homelessness assistance in Sarasota County during the 2022–23 school year.

  • This likely reflects a substantial share—but not necessarily the full count—of single mothers experiencing homelessness locally during that period.

Again, the Mosaic Initiative exists to break cycles of family homelessness and poverty in Sarasota and Manatee Counties.

With rents up nearly 50% in a year, more than half of local renters spending over 30% of their income on housing, and thousands of children—most from single-mother households—experiencing homelessness, the need is urgent.

Our mission is to rescue, restore, and reform families in crisis, creating a safe, turnkey campus that offers immediate housing, wraparound care, and pathways to long-term stability so parents and children can thrive for generations to come.
