My name is Serena, and I am a wife and a mom to 5 beautiful kids. My husband and I currently reside in the Phoenix, Arizona area, where we continue to pursue God's calling on our lives and fight for life no matter the cost. 

 

     My pro-life story started at the tender age of 15, where I found myself pregnant. Coming from a culture where it is a shame to be pregnant before marriage, my parents thought the best thing for me would be to have an abortion. My dream had always been to become a mother, and so the thought of abortion didn’t even cross my mind. I fought against this demand, but the immense pressure, fear, and threats became overwhelming and made me very weak mentally, emotionally, and physically. After a week of this hurtful and forceful pressure, I gave in and was taken to the nearest Planned Parenthood. It was there that I saw my baby on the monitor against the nurse’s will, heartbeat, and all. I looked at her and said, “I can’t do it, I just can’t have an abortion.” Consequently, I was escorted out of the Planned Parenthood and a week later, I landed at a smaller privately owned clinic. The counselor told me that my baby was more like an alien than a baby in my gestation. The abortion doctor walked in, didn’t speak to me or look at me. He simply performed the abortion and left the room. I was taken home where I would bleed huge blood clots that scared me, and suffer from anxiety, depression, and suicidal thoughts for years and years to come. When I found forgiveness, love, and redemption through my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, it was then that God revealed my great need for post-abortive healing. Through ministries and counseling, God came and loved me to life again. He healed my mind and my heart and set me free from all the things that were holding me in spiritual bondage.

     After going through healing, God began to open doors for me to do work in the Pro-life movement through sharing my abortion story nation-wide. I have worked with Operation Outcry, and the Justice Foundation, and had the opportunity to speak and share in the Iowa State Capital, the U.S. Supreme Court, a Congressional hearing, and even inside the very walls of the White House in Washington D.C. I have spoken and shared at pastor’s luncheons, and have offered my abortion story in newsletters, and in post-abortive healing material and a book. I am so thankful for all the opportunities that God has given me to share and to be a part of the good fight for the lives of the most innocent citizens of our nation, and to stand as a representative of every woman who has been hurt by abortion across the U.S. 

 

     Also, while in California, I was selected by the Prolife organization, Live Action, to travel San Francisco for Prolife activism training. I sat under Prolife activists from around the nation who have shut down the abortion clinics in their cities. Not only did they shut them down, but better services, care, and council were offered to the women of those communities to make an informed decision about their pregnancy and the best options for them. I learned that being Prolife isn’t just a Christian ideal. It is a human rights issue. It is a civil rights issue. It’s a humanity issue. And we cannot sit any longer and tolerate this evil happening right in our own communities and neighborhoods. It is time to act and not wait for laws to change. Activism is what causes laws to change. Citizens rising up against the violence of abortion is what is going to make a difference in our nation. As the late Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. stated: “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Meaning, if we are sitting back and allowing the injustice of abortion to happen and doing nothing about it, we are contributing to the problem. I believe the shedding of innocent blood causes every other evil entity to be released in cities and communities. If we want to see our cities healed and thrive, then we need to shut down the abortion clinics. It is possible, and I sat under leaders who helped me to understand the practical activism that needs to happen to see this take place. 

 

     My vision is to go into communities and see the abortion clinics shut down, and to see women, babies, communities, and neighborhoods thrive again, and to offer real healing and help to women in unplanned pregnancies. Together, we can change the culture from a culture of death to a culture of life!

    Around August of 2022 God called our family back to Illinois for His next assignments.  One of those assignments was for me to become the Regional Director of two pregnancy centers in the state of Illinois (A battleground state). This is a huge undertaking as we work to take the ground back for the Lord and convert a state that has chosen death to a state of life (Pro-Life) and prosperity in Jesus Name!

    If has been a full year of serving God through my role as Regional Director and God has definitely used me to bring Him glory and bring healing and restoration to both clinics.  However,  the Lord has made it clear that it's time to step into the fullness of what He has for me by serving our ministry of Changing the Culture full time.  This will enable me to focus on the mission at CtC which is to encourage and equip people to encounter the love of Jesus Christ.  This will also help free up my time to travel to places God has called me to and tell people about my story so we can continue to change the culture from a culture of death to a culture of life.
